For sample persons under age 18, MALL2W reports if the person took or used any asthma or allergy pills or medications (such as Benadryl, Dimetapp, or Sudafed and the like) during the past 2 weeks. MALL2W is part of the "Medicine Use" section of the 1981 Child Health Supplement.

For those who respond "yes" to MALL2W, the following information is collected:

  • The main health problem the respondent used the asthma or allergy medicine for (MALL2WPROB),
  • Whether the respondent obtained the asthma or allergy medicine via prescription (MALL2WRX),
  • Whether a doctor recommended the use of asthma or allergy medicine (MALL2WDREC), and
  • How often the respondent used the asthma or allergy medicine in the past 3 months (MALL2WFREQ)
