Description
For sample adults who have ever worked, this variable indicates responses to the question, "Have you ever had a job, or combination of jobs, where you were exposed to loud sounds or noise for 4 or more hours a day, several days a week? Loud means so loud that you must speak in a raised voice to be heard."

In 2007, this variable was part of a Sample Adult Hearing Supplement, (sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The hearing supplement questions were included to address the Healthy People 2010 program initiatives, including reducing adult hearing loss in the noise-exposed public.
