Description

For sample adults who have ever been exposed to leisure-time noise at least once a month for a year, this variable indicates whether they were exposed to loud noise from wood cutting, woodworking, other workshop power tools for 10 or more times for a year. Respondents were handed a card with 10 activities or noises and could select as many noises that applied.

In 2007, this variable was part of a Sample Adult Hearing Supplement, (sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The hearing supplement questions were included to address the Healthy People 2010 program initiatives, including reducing adult hearing loss in the noise-exposed public.
