Description

For sample adults who have ever been exposed to leisure-time noise at least once a month for a year, HRISKIPOD indicates whether the person was exposed to loud music from an MP3/iPod. Respondents were handed a card with 10 activities or noises and could select as many noises as applied.

In 2007, this variable was part of a Sample Adult Hearing Supplement, (sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), which is part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The hearing supplement questions were included to address the Healthy People 2010 program initiatives, including reducing adult hearing loss in the noise-exposed public. For a full list of hearing related variables available for all years, see HEARING, or use the IPUMS NHIS search function or drop-down menus.
