Description

For sample adults age 18+ in 2002 who had a healing ritual or sacrament performed for their own health or treatment in the past 12 months (PRARITYR) and had used healing rituals/sacraments to treat a specific health problem or condition (PRATREAT), PRATMLIMB indicates whether the person had used healing rituals/sacraments to treat missing limbs.

For most of the alternative health treatment modalities, the treatment of missing limbs was reported for both 2002 and 2007. For one modality--healing rituals/sacraments--treatment of missing limbs (and 73 other conditions) was reported in 2002 only. For two of the modalities--hypnosis and movement techniques--treatment of missing limbs (and 115 other conditions) was included in 2007 only. (See HYPYR and MOVALEXYR for more information.) Analysts interested in the treatment of missing limbs by alternative therapies other than healing rituals/sacraments should see PRARITYR for the full list of alternative medicine treatments, as well as for a summary of healing ritual-related questions and definitions.

Comparability

PRATMLIMB is only available for 2002. Survey participants were asked about their use of most of the alternative health modalities to treat missing limbs in 2007, but they were not asked about using healing rituals/sacraments to missing limbs or most other specific health conditions in 2007.
