Description

For sample adults who have ever seen a health professional, including ER physicians, for symptoms of dizziness or a balance problem, BALHPHELP indicates whether the respondent felt that any of the health professional(s) they saw helped with dizziness or balance problem. Respondents were first asked to identify the most bothersome dizziness symptom (BALSBOTHER), and this question refers to the help they received for the most bothersome symptom. Affirmative answers to BALHPHELP were asked about the time required to feel help with the balance problem (BALHPHELPNO) and time required to feel help with the balance problem (BALHPHELPTP).

In 2008, the question for this variable was part of the Sample Adult Balance Supplement, sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.

The supplement consisted of a total 205 questions (some of which were only asked based on a previous response). For a further description of the Supplement as well as a full list of the balance related topics and additional variables, see BALDIZYR.
