Description
For sample children in 2007 who had taken herbal supplements in the past 30 days (HERMO), HERSPMO indicates whether the child had taken any herbal supplements to improve athletic or sports performance.
Related Variables
Respondents for sample children were shown a flash card containing a list of 45 herbal supplements, and were to report any that the child had taken for purposes of improved athletic or sports performance.

In 2007, sample adults could also report that they had taken an herbal supplement to improve sports performance (HER1SPORT and HER2SPORT). Unlike sample children, however, sample adults were not asked to report which herbs they had taken for this purpose.
The 2007 NHIS also collected information on sample persons' use of vitamin and mineral supplements to improve athletic or sports performance.
