For persons who had received such medication (i.e., those with a "yes" response in VIT2TPMED), the complementary variable VIT2TPMEDTIM indicates whether they received such prescription medication before, at about the same time, or after they began taking the second vitamin supplement.

The survey question for VIT2TPMED also collected information about the use of other conventional medical treatments (or no conventional treatment) for the condition for which the second vitamin supplement was used the most, including:

• Mental health counseling (VIT2TCOUN)

• Over-the-counter medications (VIT2TNPMED)

• Surgery (VIT2TSURG)

• Physical therapy (VIT2TPT)

• No conventional treatment (VIT2TNOCONV)

For respondents who had taken at least one vitamin supplement during the past 30 days (VITMOSUPNO) and had taken the first vitamin supplement to treat or cure a specific health problem or condition (VIT1TREAT), information was similarly collected on whether the person also received prescription medication or other forms of conventional medical treatment for the condition for which they most used the first vitamin supplement (VIT1TCONMOST).
