Description

For sample adults in 2007 who had taken herbal supplements during the past 30 days (HERMO), HERPTP reports how often the respondent bought herbal supplements.

Interviewers asked, "About how often do you buy herbal supplements?" Interviewers were instructed, "If necessary prompt with: how many times per day, per week, per month or per year do you buy herbal supplements? Enter '0' if respondent does not buy herbal supplements."

HERPTP reports a time period (e.g., per day, per week, per month, etc.). This variable must be interpreted in conjunction with HERPNO, which reports the number of times respondents had purchased herbal supplements corresponding to the time period reported in HERPTP.

Related Variables

See HERPAMT for the dollar amount spent on herbal supplements by the respondent during the last purchase of these materials.

For some other alternative health practices, information was also collected on the purchase of related materials, specifically:

  • How often vitamin supplements are purchased (VITPNO, VITPTP)
  • How often homeopathic supplements are purchased (HOMNO, HOMTP)
  • Bought relaxation technique self-help book or materials (RELBOOK)
