Description

For sample adults in 2007 who had taken vitamins or minerals during the past 30 days (VITMO), VITPTP reports how often the respondent bought vitamins or minerals.

Interviewers asked, "About how often do you buy vitamins or minerals?" Interviewers were instructed, "If necessary prompt with: how many times per day, per week, per month or per year do you buy herbal supplements? Enter '0' if respondent does not buy vitamins or minerals."

VITPTP reports a time period (e.g., per day, per week, per month, etc.). It must be interpreted in conjunction with VITPNO, which reports the number of times respondents had purchased vitamins or minerals corresponding to the time period reported in VITPTP.

Related Variables

See VITPAMT for the dollar amount spent on vitamins and minerals by the respondent during the last purchase of these materials.

For some other alternative health practices, information was also collected on the purchase of related materials, specifically:

  • How often herbal supplements are purchased (HERPNO, HERPTP)
  • How often homeopathic supplements are purchased (HOMNO, HOMTP)
  • Bought relaxation technique self-help book or materials (RELBOOK)

For more information on the full range of variables related to vitamins and minerals from 2007, see VITMO. For information on vitamin/mineral variables from other years, see VITYR and VITANY.
