The survey question for HER2TNOCONV collected information about the use of specific conventional medical treatments for the condition for which the second herbal supplement was used the most, if the person had received conventional medical treatment. The specific treatments asked about were:

• Mental health counseling (HER2COUN)

• Prescription medications (HER2PMED)

• Over-the-counter medications (HER2NPMED)

• Surgery (HER2SURG)

• Physical therapy (HER2PT)

Interviewers asked, "Did you receive any of these conventional medical treatments for [condition for which second herbal supplement was used the most]?" and entered all treatments reported by the respondent.

For respondents who had taken at least one herbal supplement during the past 30 days (HERMOSUPNO) and had taken the first herbal supplement to treat or cure a specific health problem or condition (HER1TREAT), information was similarly collected on whether the person received conventional medical treatment for the condition for which they most used the first herbal supplement (HER1TCONMOST).
