Description

CANINTCOUNSL indicates that the sample person would have been interested in receiving professional counseling or joining a support group if they had known about it. In 1992 this inquiry was directed at sample persons age 18 years and over who were ever diagnosed with one kind of cancer (CANCEREV, CANCERNO) and were diagnosed in the past 10 years (CAN1DIAGDY, CAN1DIAGE) or who were diagnosed with more than one kind of cancer (CANCERNO) who's most recent cancer was diagnose in the past 10 years (CANRECDIAGDY, CANRECDIAGE) and who did not receive professional counseling or join a support group (CANCOUNSL) because they didn't know it was available (CANOCOUNSL). In 2010 it was directed at sample persons 18 years and over who were ever told they had cancer (CANCEREV) and did not receive professional counseling or joining a support group to cope with cancer diagnosis (CANCOUNSL) because they did not know these services were available (CANOCOUNSL).

Universe

  • 1992: Sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2 and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 who were ever diagnosed with one kind of cancer and were diagnosed in the past 10 years OR who were diagnosed with more than one kind of cancer and most recent cancer was diagnosed in the past 10 years AND did not receive counseling or join support group because they didn't know it was available.
  • 2010: Sample adults 18+ who were ever told they had cancer and did not receive professional counseling or join a support group to help cope with cancer diagnosis because they didn't know these services were available.
