Description
For sample adults who are able to walk (LAWALKCLIMDIF), WALKFUN indicates if they walked for leisure during the past 7 days.
Those who gave affirmative answers to WALKFUN were asked follow-up questions to determine the extent of their walking for leisure.
These include:
- WALKFUNDAY: Number of days walked
- WALKFUNNO: Duration of walking for leisure: Number of units
- WALKFUNTP: Duration of walking for leisure: Time period
- WALKFUNX: Times walked for leisure during the past 7 days
- WALKFUNTPD: Average number of times walked for leisure per day, past 7 days
- WALKFUNTC: Average length of walk for leisure: Minutes
Comparability
While the basic meaning of this variable is completely comparable over time, major questionnaire changes introduced in 2019 may affect comparability with earlier years. The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. - 2005; 2010; 2015: Sample adults age 18+ who are not unable to walk (WALKTRAN).
- 2020 2022: Sample adults age 18+ who are able to walk (LAWALKCLIMDIF).
