Description

For sample adults who took pain medication at least 3 times a week over the past 3 months (PMED, PMED3MO), PMASPIRIN identifies those who mentioned aspirin when asked, "Can you tell me the names of these medications?" Aspirin was one of 12 common pain medications listed on a flash card handed to the respondent at the beginning of questioning about the regular use of pain medication.

Other similar dichotomous variables covering use of specific pain medication regularly over the past 3 months are:

  • PMCELE (Took Celecoxib regularly)
  • PMEXCED (Took Excedrin regularly)
  • PMNAPROX (Took Naprosyn or Naproxen regularly)
