Description
For sample adults who reported taking a prescription medication in the past 12 months (PREMEDYR), OPIOIDYR reports whether the sample person took any opioid pain relievers prescribed by a doctor, dentist, or other health professional in the past 12 months.
During the interview, the interviewer instructed the sample person to not include "over-the-counter pain relievers such as aspirin, Tylenol, Advil, or Aleve" when answering questions about their use of prescribed opioids. If the sample person was unsure if a prescription medicine they were taking was an opioid, the interviewer could look up the name of the drug to determine if it is considered an opioid.
