Description
For sample persons age 18 and over, CANMOSMOKE reports if the person thought that smoking cigarettes, cigars, or a pipe increased one's risk of oral cancer. Persons were told that oral cancer was, "lip, mouth, tongue, or throat" cancer and were asked to report yes, no, or if they did not know, as regards to an increased cancer risk. Respondents were shown a card listing five possible causes of cancer and could select as many as necessary.
Related variables: persons were also asked if the following reasons increased one's risk of cancer:
- CANMOSUN, excess sunlight
- CANMOALC, drinking alcohol
- CANMOCOFFEE, excessive drinking coffee
- CANMOCHEW, using chewing tobacco or snuff
- CANMOSELSE, something else
