For sample persons age 20 and older in the second half of 1975 who had participated in softball in the past 12 months (EXSOFTBPAR), EXSOFTBTOR indicates whether the person had taken participated in softball tournaments either as an individual or as a member of a team during the past 12 months.

Softball was one of 15 sports (including one residual "other" category) that respondents were asked about in the 1975 NHIS. In addition to being asked if they had participated in softball tournaments, those who indicated that they had played softball (EXSOFTBPAR) were asked whether they had participated in softball as a member of an organized team in the past 12 months (EXSOFTBTEM).

Comparability
