Description
For sample adults who have had symptoms of dizziness (BALDIZYR) or at least one balance problem (BALSYMPTNO), BALCHANGYR indicates whether the problem had gotten worse, stayed the same, improved somewhat, or improved greatly in the last 12 months.
This variable was part of the Sample Adult Balance Supplement, sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.
Comparability
Please see Universe tab for changes in the universe over time. In 2008, this variable corresponds to the most bothersome dizziness symptom BALSBOTHER). In 2016, the question refers more generally to whether the action usually happens around the same time as dizziness or balance problem(s).
Universe
- 2008: Sample adults age 18+ who have had symptoms of dizziness or at least one balance problem.
- 2016: Sample adults 18+ who have ever had a problem with dizziness or balance and have had a problem with dizziness or balance in the past 12 months OR sample adults who have ever reported having a symptom of at least one specific dizziness or balance problem in the past 12 months.
