Description

For sample persons under age 18, URINTINFEV indicates if the child ever had a bladder infection or urinary tract infection. The inquiry did not require that the infection be diagnosed by a doctor or health professional, and a definition of these terms ("bladder infection or urinary tract infection") was not provided in the survey text or in the Field Representative's Manual .

The question for URINTINFEV was part of a series of questions on child health conditions in the 1988 Supplement on Child Health.

Related Variables

Along with URINTINFEV, respondents were asked if the child ever had any of 33 conditions, grouped in nine categories, and respondents could also specify up to three conditions not directly included in the inquiry.

 

Variables grouped with URINTINFEV in the condition list included:

HEPATEV, ever had hepatitis; MONOEV, ever had mononucleosis; PNEUMONEV, ever had a pneumonia; RHEUMFEV, ever had rheumatic fever; and MENINGITEV, ever had meningitis or spinal meningitis.
