For sample persons under age 18, URINTINFEV indicates if the child ever had a bladder infection or urinary tract infection. The inquiry did not require that the infection be diagnosed by a doctor or health professional, and a definition of these terms ("bladder infection or urinary tract infection") was not provided in the survey text or in the Field Representative's Manual .

The question for URINTINFEV was part of a series of questions on child health conditions in the 1988 Supplement on Child Health.
