For sample adults who ever had a skin cancer examination (SKNCANX), SKNXM13YR reports the recoded grouped number of years since the respondent's last skin exam by a dermatologist or other physician.

Related Variables

SKNMG13YR is a recoded variable based on responses from other variables.

These include:

SKNXMDMO Month of most recent skin exam

SKNXMDYR Year of most recent skin exam

SKNXMNO Time since skin exam: number of units

SKNXMTP Time since skin exam: Time period

SKNXM13Y Most recent skin exam: Time categories

Researchers are advised to use SKNXMG13YR instead of SKNXM13Y because while the former variable recodes responses from all of the other time format questions, the later variable is only asked of respondents who did not know the month and year of their last skin cancer exam or had their exam in 1989.

These questions are asked in a section titled, "Cancer Screening Knowledge and Practice."

For more information, please see SKNCANX.
