Description
For sample adults aged 50 and older who have had a Zostavax vaccine (SHOTZOSTEV) but do not know or refused to provide the year they had it (SHOTZOSTYR), SHOTZOSTC reports whether they were vaccinated before 2018 or in 2018 or later.
SHOTZOSTC is part of a series of variables initiated in 2018 covering shingles vaccinations. The Shingrix vaccine was made available in 2017, so SHOTZOSTC and SHOTSGRXC are asked to further clarify whether the shingles vaccine the respondent received was Zostavax or Shingrix. Please refer to the Description tab in SHOTSHNGEV for more information about shingles vaccinations.
Comparability
The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.
