Description
For all persons, OTHINSYN reports if the person belongs to a health insurance plan with a known name other than a health maintenance organization (HMO), prepaid group practice plan (PGPP), or a plan reported in HMOPGPP.
Respondents who could not name an HMO or PGPP were excluded from HMOPGPP; all respondents were asked if anybody in the family is covered by a health insurance plan. Persons who are covered by other health insurance plans with known names given in the follow up question are identified in this variable.
This variable is part of the NHIS supplement on HMO coverage.
