Description

NOTHOMCARE indicates whether the person needed but did not get home health care during the past 12 months. NOTHOMCARE reports responses to the question, "During the past 12 months, was there a time when [person] needed any kind of the following services, but did not get them ... home health care?" The question was intended to determine whether access to this specific type of health care was restricted at any time during the previous year, for any reason.

Definition of Home Health Care

The Field Representative's Manual for 2001 contains the following detailed definition of home health care:

Home health care consists of medical or personal care services provided in the individual's home. The services that home care agencies provide may be fairly simple, ranging from monitoring blood pressure to coordinating medication, to the highly complex, such as intravenous infusion therapy or care for AIDS patients. Home health agencies also can provide personal care, which includes such functions as bathing or housekeeping, to maintain a person in his or her own home.
