Description

For sample adults who were ever told that they had high blood pressure (except only during pregnancy) (HYPERTENEV and HYPPREG), HYPALCADV indicates whether they had ever been advised by a doctor or other health professional to cut down on alcohol use, because of high blood pressure.

Those who gave an affirmative response to HYPALCADV were further asked whether they had ever followed such advice to reduce alcohol consumption to lower their blood pressure (HYPALCFOL) and whether they were now following such advice (HYPALCNOW).

Related Variables

Additional questions included in this supplement address receiving and following advice to make other behavioral changes to lower blood pressure, specifically:

Changing one's diet

Exercising
