Description
For sample children age 7 to 17 (in 1991) or 7 to 15 (in 1998) who did karate or judo as part of an organized sport during the past 12 months (PLAYJUDO), HGJUDO reports responses to the question, "During the past 12 months, when doing karate or judo, how often did [sample child] wear protective headgear-- all or most of the time, some of the time, once in awhile, or never?"
The 1991 Field Representative's Manual defines "organized sports" as any sport that has a sponsor, including school-related activities (such as school varsity or junior varsity teams, intramural or club sports, and physical education classes) or sports played through community organizations, Little League, recreation centers, or Scouts, as well as private lessons.

The similar variable MGJUDO reports how often children wore a mouth guard to protect their mouth and teeth while doing karate or judo.
