Description

For sample adults in 2007 who had taken at least one combination herb pill during the past 30 days (HERMOCOMBO), HERCOMBONO reports how many different "combination herb pills" the respondent had taken.

A "Yes" response to HERMOCOMBO indicates that the respondent had taken more than one herb in a single supplement. Sample adults who provided such an affirmative response were asked how many different combination herb pills they had taken. HERCOMBONO reports this number, with codes ranging from 1 to 50. Interviewers were instructed, "Enter '50' for 50 or more [different combination herb pills]."

Respondents were then asked to identify which herbs were included in the two combination herb pills they had taken most often. The 2007 NHIS recognized 44 specific natural herbs and 1 residual "other" category. See HER1COMAND and HER2COMAND for the full list of herbs that respondents could report using as part of a combination herb pill.

For more information on the full range of variables related to herbal supplements in 2007, see HERMO. For information on herb variables from other years, see HERYR.
