Description
For sample adults and sample children in 2007 who had taken one or more herbal supplements during the past 30 days (HERMOSUPNO), HER1MOST reports the first of two herbal supplements that the respondent had taken most often.
Sample adults and respondents for sample children were shown the same list of 45 herbs and asked, "Which two of these herbal supplements did [you/(sample child's name)] take the most in the past 30 days?" Interviewers were given the instruction, "If respondent cannot choose two herbs used most often, probe for the two most important for health." See HERMOAND for the full list of herbal supplements shown to sample adults and respondents for sample children.
Related Variables[show more]
The herb identified in HER1MOST is used to fill in question wording on many subsequent survey items. For example, HER1USWELL asks, "Did you use [fill: 1st herb] for any of these reasons? ... For general health or wellness?"
For sample persons who had taken two or more herbal supplements in the past 30 days, parallel information was recorded on the second of the two herbal supplements that the respondent had taken most often. (See HER2MOST.)
For more information on the full range of variables related to herbal supplements, including definitions, see HERMO.
