Description

For sample persons age 18 and over HEARDACS indicates if the sample person has ever heard of the American Cancer Society.

The field representative's manual defines the American Cancer Society, The Cancer Information Service, The National Cancer Institute, and the 1-800-4-Cancer Hotline as "private and public agencies concerned with cancer research, treatment, prevention, and/or information dissemination".

Related Variables

In addition to HEARDACS sample persons were asked if they have heard of other cancer services. Other types of cancer services were:

  • (HEARDCINFO) Ever heard of Cancer Information Service
  • (HEARDNCI) Ever heard of National Cancer Institute

Comparability

There are no comparability problems with HEARDACS.

Universe

  • 1992: Half of sample persons age 18+ in quarters 1 and 2, and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CAEP supplement).
