For sample children in 2007, FOKNOYR indicates whether the child had seen "None" of the following folk medicine practitioners for health reasons during the past 12 months:

• Curandero (FOKCURANYR)

• Espiritista (FOKESPIRYR)

• Hierbero or Yerbera (FOKYERBYR)

• Shaman (FOKSHAMYR)

• Botanica (FOKBOTANYR)

• Native American Healer/Medicine man (FOKNAMYR)

• Sobador (FOKSOBADYR)

The above variables provide a "Yes" or "No" response indicating whether sample children (and sample adults) had seen that type of practitioner for health reasons in the past year. A similar variable is available for sample adults (but not for sample children) in 2007, indicating whether they had never seen any of the above traditional healers (FOKTHNEVER).

No further information about the use of folk medicine was collected for sample children with a "Yes" response to FOKNOYR (i.e., those who had not seen any of the above practitioners in the past year).
