Description
For sample persons aged 18 years and over who agree that diet has little effect on developing major diseases (EHDEFFECT) and have heard or read how diet can prevent some major diseases (EHDEFFECTHER), EHDOBESEHER indicates whether the respondent has heard or read that obesity/overweight may be related to what people eat and drink.
Interviewers were instructed to mark all diseases mentioned by the respondent in their corresponding category, but instructed not to probe for additional responses. Respondents could list more than one major disease.
EHDOBESEHER is part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 dealing with food, food knowledge, and cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus or see DIETCHANGEV.
