Description

For sample persons aged 18 years and over who agree that diet has little effect on developing major diseases (EHDEFFECT), EHDEFFECTHER indicates whether the respondent has heard or read "ANYTHING about how eating more of some foods and less of other foods can help prevent some major diseases."

Respondents were also asked about which major diseases they had heard were related to diet.

EHDEFFECTHER is part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 dealing with food, food knowledge, and cancer. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus or see DIETCHANGEV.

Comparability

Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.
