Description
For sample adults who started taking insulin within a year of being diagnosed with diabetes (DIAINSLLONG) and stopped taking it for more than six months (DIAINSLSTOP), DIAINSLSTOP1STYR reports if the person stopped taking insulin for more than six months only during the first year after their diabetes diagnosis.
This variable is part of the Sample Adult Diabetes supplement, sponsored by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP).
Comparability
Aside from comparability challenges introduced by the 2019 redesign, this variable is comparable over time. Questionnaire design changes introduced in 2019 limit comparability with earlier years. The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.
