Description

For sample adults with diabetes who now take insulin by shot or pump (INSULIN), DIAINSLLONG reports the length of time between when they were first diagnosed with diabetes and when they started taking insulin.

This variable is part of the Sample Adult Diabetes supplement, sponsored by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) and National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP).

Comparability

Aside from comparability challenges introduced with the 2019 redesign, this variable is comparable over time. Questionnaire design changes introduced in 2019 limit comparability with earlier years. The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.
