Description

CANRAD indicates if the sample person mentioned seeing a radiologist for their cancer diagnosis and treatment. This inquiry was directed at sample persons age 18 years and over who were ever diagnosed with one kind of cancer (CANCEREV, CANCERNO) and were diagnosed in the past 10 years (CAN1DIAGDY, CAN1DIAGE) or who were diagnosed with more than one kind of cancer (CANCERNO) and most recent cancer was diagnosed in the past 10 years (CANRECDIAGDY, CANRECDIAGE).

The field representative's manual defined radiologist as "a physician specializing in radiology, the branch of medical science that uses x-rays, radioactive substances, and other forms of radiant enery in the diagnosis and treatment of disease". It went on to say "Indicate all the different type of doctors the SP saw for diagnoses and/or treatment of the cancer...Include doctors seen for consultation, second opinions, follow-up treatment etc., as well as those making the initial diagnoses or providing primary treatment".
