This variable was part of the Sample Adult Balance Supplement, sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.

Comparability

Please see Universe tab for changes in the universe over time. In 2008, this variable corresponds to the most bothersome dizziness symptom BALSBOTHER) and asked about seeing a doctor or health professional generally, with no specific recall period. In 2016, the question refers more generally to dizziness or balance problem(s) with a recall period of seeing a health professional or doctor during the last five years. Additionally, in 2016 the response category associated with this variable includes physician's assistants and nurse practitioners, while in 2008 it instead refers to a nurse or a nurse practitioner only, but does not mention physician's assistants.
