Description

For sample adults who have had symptoms of dizziness or at least one balance problem, BALDIZLONG reports the length of time the respondent had the most bothersome (BALSBOTHER) dizziness or balance problem. Respondents were asked to pick from one of eight response categories. The Field Representative's Manual included the instructions, "For all of the
questions asking about time frames, instruct respondents to estimate as best as he/she can if they are unsure."

In 2008, the question for this variable was part of the Sample Adult Balance Supplement, sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.

The supplement consisted of a total 205 questions (some of which were only asked based on a previous response). Many of the questions in the supplement concern detailed information about a specific dizziness or balance problem, or the one the respondent identified if more than one was mentioned. For a full list of balance and dizziness relate variables, see BALDIZYR.
