Description
For sample adults who had taken two or more vitamin supplements in the past 30 days (VITMOSUPNO) and had taken the second supplement for different reasons than they had taken the first (VIT2SAME1), VIT2RELREC indicates whether respondents had used a second vitamin supplement because it was recommended by family, friends, or co-workers.
Other reasons for using a second vitamin supplement that were recorded by the survey, and the associated IPUMS NHIS variables, are:
- VIT2DRUGCOST (Prescription or non-prescription drugs too expensive)
- VIT2HCREC (Health care provider recommended)
- VIT2IMMUN (Improved immune function)
- VIT2MEDCOST (Medical treatment too expensive)
- VIT2MEDFAIL (Medical treatment did not help)
- VIT2MENT (Improved mental ability or memory)
- VIT2PHYS (Improved physical performance)
- VIT2SEX (Improved sexual performance)
- VIT2WELL (General wellness)
- VIT2SPORT (Improved sports performance)
- VIT2TREAT (Treat a disease or health problem)
- VIT2PREV (Prevent a disease or health problem)
- VIT2SAME1 (Whether taken for same reasons as 1st vitamin supplement taken)
