Description
For sample respondents age 18 and over who have worked in the past 2 weeks for a private company or the federal, state, or local government and worked mainly indoors
SMOKYWKAREA indicates the degree to which the respondent felt their immediate work area was smoky, categorized as: very smoky, somewhat smoky, a little smoky, or not smoky at all.
The term "immediate work area" was respondent defined.
Related Variables
The question for SMOKYWKAREA was a follow-up question for SMOKWORKAREA , if anyone smoked in the respondent's immediate work area in the past two weeks. As a follow-up to SMOKYWKAREA, respondents were then asked if smoking was allowed in their immediate work area SMOKOKWKAREA.
Universe
- 1987: Half of sample persons age 18+ (excluded from CAEP supplement) who had a job in the past 2 weeks, who spent at least half of the work day inside an office building where at least 5 people work and where smoking is allowed at work.
- 1991: Sample persons age 18+ who work for a private company or for the federal, state, or local government, who worked in the past 2 weeks, and who regularly work indoors.
