Description
For sample females ages 30 and older who have had a breast exam (BXEV), BREXWHY reports the reason for the most recent breast exam: a specific breast problem, follow-up to a previous exam, part of a routine physical (or pregnancy) exam, or other. In 1992, BREXWHY was asked of half of female sample persons ages 30 and older in quarters 1 and 2 and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CAEP supplement) who have ever had a breast physical exam and whose most recent exam was in the past 3 years.

Comparability
Comparability may be affected by changes in the universe and response categories and the 2019 questionnaire redesign. The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. Universe
- 1992: Half of female sample persons age 30+ in quarters 1 and 2 and in 2 weeks of quarter 3 (excluded from CAEP supplement) who have ever had a breast physical exam and whose most recent exam was in the past 3 years.
