Description
For sample adults in 2000 and 2005 who had taken any calcium during at least 1 month of the past 12 months (VITACALCMO), VITACALCNO reports the number of days (per week or per month) that respondents had taken calcium in those months.
In both years, interviewers asked, "During [the/those] month(s), about how many [days [per week]/days per month] did you take calcium?" VITACALCNO must be interpreted in conjunction with VITACALCTP, which reports the type of time unit ("days per week," "days per month," or "other") respondents used when answering the question.
Related Variables
For 2000 only, the National Center for Health Statistics recoded data from VITACALCNO and VITACALCTP to create two new variables with consistent time units: Number of days per week took calcium during the relevant months of the past 12 months (VITACALCDWK), and number of days per month took calcium during the relevant months of the past 12 months (VITACALCDMO). VITACALCDMO is also available for 1992, when it was asked as a direct question.
Variables similar to VITACALCNO are available for the following vitamin/mineral supplements (with years indicating availability):
