Description
PHOBIAYR indicates whether sample adults age 18+ and sample children age 4 to 17 had phobia or fears during the past 12 months.
Sample adults were first asked, "Have you EVER been told by a doctor or other health professional that you had ... Phobia or fears?," with responses recorded in PHOBIAEV. Respondents with an affirmative answer in PHOBIAEV were asked the follow-up question, "During the past 12 months have you had ... Phobia or fears?," with responses recorded in PHOBIAYR. The question associated with PHOBIAYR did not specify that the condition during the past year must be diagnosed by a doctor or other health professional.
For sample children age 4 to 17, interviewers asked respondents, "During the past 12 months, has a doctor or other health professional told you that [sample child] had ... Phobia or fears?"
