For sample persons under age 18 who took other cold remedies in the past 2 weeks (MCOLD2W), MCOLD2WPROB reports the main health problem for which the person took or used the medication. MCOLD2WPROB is part of the "Medicine Use" section of the 1981 Child Health Supplement.

For those who respond "yes" to MCOLD2W, the following information is also collected:
- Whether the respondent obtained the cold medicine via prescription (MCOLD2WRX),
- Whether a doctor recommended the use of cold medicine (MCOLD2WDREC), and
- How often the respondent used the cold medicine in the past 3 months (MCOLD2WFREQ)
