Description
For sample female adults ages 30 and over who ever had a mammogram (MAMEV) and had their first mammogram before age 50 or don't know or refused to say when they had their first mammogram (MAM1AGEG) and are currently less than 50 years old, MAM1Y reports the main reason why she had her first mammogram. The verbatim responses given by women were categorized by the interviewer using the codes reported on the Codes tab. Prior to 2019, MAM1Y was asked of sample female adults ages 30 and over who ever had a mammogram before age 40. Please see MAMEV for other related variables.
Comparability
The NHIS questionnaire was substantially redesigned in 2019 to introduce a different data collection structure and new content. For more information on changes in terminology, universes, and data collection methods beginning in 2019, please see the user note.
Universe
- 2010: Female sample adults age 30+ who have had a mammogram and who had first mammogram at age 39 or before.
- 2019: Female sample adults age 30+ who have had a mammogram (MAMEV) and who had first mammogram before age 50 or don't know or refused to say when they had their first mammogram (MAM1AGEG) and are currently less than 50 years old.
