BLOODGAVE85 indicates if the sample person has donated blood since March 1985. In 1987, the sample person indicated if they had donated blood since January 1985, rather than March 1985.

In 1987, this inquiry was directed at sample persons age 18 years and older who reported when then saw, heard, or read something about AIDS (AIDHEARTP, AIDHEARNO, AIDHEARD, AIDHEARW) or who ever heard of AIDS (AIDHEAREV). In 1988, this inquiry was directed at sample persons age 18 years and older in quarters 2, 3 and 4. In 1990 and 1991, the sample persons age 18 years and older who ever donated blood (BLOODGAVEV). In 1992, this inquiry was directed at half of sample persons age 18 years and over who ever donated blood (BLOODGAVEV). In 1993, half of sample persons age 18 years and older in quarters 3 and quarters 4 for who were excluded from Y2K supplement (BLOODGAVEV). In 1994-1995, half of sample persons age 18 years and older who were excluded from the Y2K supplement. In 1989 and 1997-2010, this inquiry was directed at sample persons age 18 years and older.

Comparability

Aside from the changes in universe and the slight difference in date since donated blood in 1987 there are no comparability problems with BLOODGAVE85.
