For sample adults who have ever seen a health professional for symptoms of dizziness or a balance problem (BALSAWHPEV), BALHPNO5YR reports the number of times the person saw a health professional for the problem in the past 5 years. This variable was part of the Sample Adult Balance Supplement, sponsored by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.

Comparability

Please see Universe tab for changes in the universe over time. In 2008, this variable corresponds to the most bothersome dizziness symptom BALSBOTHER). Beginning in 2016, the question refers more generally to whether the action usually happens around the same time as dizziness or balance problem(s).
