Description

For sample persons aged 18 and older who have ever heard of AIDS, AIDSKNOW87 reports if the person has ever known anyone personally who had AIDS.

In 1987, sample persons were asked separately if they personally knew anyone who had the AIDS virus (AIDSKNOWPER) and if they personally knew anyone who had AIDS (included in this variable). In subsequent years, those responses were combined in one question handled in AIDSKNOWPER.
