Description

For a selected group of sample adults age 18 and over who reported that they had drank wine in the past day, week, month, or year, WINETP reports what type of time unit is being referenced (day, week, month, or year). WINETP should be used in conjunction with WINENO, which reports the number of units and WINESIZ, which indicates the size of each serving.

WINETP was part of the 1987 and 1992 cancer epidemiology supplements. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.

Comparability

Apart from changes in the sampling design (see Universe tab for details), this variable is comparable over time. Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.
