Description
For a selected group of sample adults age 18 and over, WINENO indicates how many times in the past day, week, month, or year that the respondent drank wine. For the time period referenced, see WINETP, for the number of glasses of wine drank each time, see WINENUM, and for the size of each serving, see WINESIZ.
WINENO was part of a series of variables initiated in 1987 dealing with food and food knowledge in the Cancer epidemiology supplement. For related variables, please use the IPUMS NHIS search function and drop-down menus.
Comparability
Apart from changes in the sampling design (see Universe tab for details), this variable is comparable over time. Changes in survey design (e.g., quarters in which the supplement was collected) may affect raw frequencies, but do not affect comparability of the variable. As always, data users should use the prescribed IHIS weights.
