VISITYRNO identifies the total number of office visits during the past 12 months. VISITYRNO reports the responses to the survey question, "During the past 12 months, how many times [have/has] [you/sample child] seen a doctor or other health care professional about [your own/sample child's] health at a doctor's office, a clinic, or some other place?"

From 1997 to 1999, the survey interviewer specifically instructed the interviewee to exclude overnight hospitalizations, visits to hospital emergency rooms, home visits, or telephone calls. For sample adults for 2000 forward, the instructions were expanded to also exclude dental visits. Dental visits were excluded for sample children for 2002 forward.

DOCVIS2W reports if the respondent visited a doctor's office during the two weeks prior to the interview, and DOCVIS2WNO reports the number of office visits during the past two weeks.

Apart from changes in the exclusion of dental visits for sample adults (2000 forward) and sample children (2002 forward), variable is comparable over time.
