Description

For sample adults, TOMSAUCEMO is reports how many times per month the respondent ate tomato sauce, such as spaghetti sauce or pizza with tomato sauce.

Comparability

There are no comparability issues. However, similar variables from different samples, TOMSAUCEMNO and TOMSAUCEMTP, report the frequency with which respondents eat tomato sauce, but use the standardized NHIS food frequency format, recording the number of times a food was consumed and the corresponding time unit. Data users interested in using more years of available data may consider modifying the standardized food frequency format TOMSAUCEMNO and TOMSAUCEMTP to correspond to the pre-defined categories from 2005. It should be noted that TOMSAUCEMNO and TOMSAUCEMTP do not include tomato sauce on pizza.
